The college is proud of the NSS department which is one of the most active departments of the college. The NSS unit was started in the college in 1992-93 and it was awarded the university level highest award (MahavidyalayaStariysarvochhapuraskar) in 2007. The aim of the NSS is to develop a sense of responsibility and participation among students in order to prepare them for nation building through social work. Special emphasis is given on the personality development of the students by providing them with ample opportunities to realize their potential. It aims at deepening the social awareness among students. It makes sure that the students become more and more tolerant and co-operative.

The department tries to achieve the various objectives of NSS. Firstly, it gives rich and meaningful educational experiences to them in order to make their education complete and meaningful. Secondly, it tries to develop various skills among students such as leadership skills, time management skills, organizational skills, decision making skills, problem solving skills etc. Thirdly, it tries to arouse social consciousness of the students by providing them opportunities to work with and among the people. Fourthly, the department tries to develop an awareness and knowledge of social realities to have concern for the well being of the community. Finally, the overall objective of education is attained by giving the students enough opportunities for the service to the community along with the classroom education.

The NSS department organizes various activities throughout the year, which includes a series of regular activities as well as a special camping programme. Some of the regular activities are blood donation camp, celebration of important days, cleanliness drive, plantation, road safety week, constitution week and a few cultural activities aiming at the personality development of students.

Special winter camp of seven days duration is organized every year. The special camp is conducted in a nearby village. The main focus during these camps is the development of the village. The volunteers of NSS try to increase the awareness of the villagers regarding various important issues such as the importance of education and hygiene, eradication of poverty and illiteracy, environment conservation and cleanliness. Cultural activities are integral to the special camps whereby not only the villagers are entertained but the NSS volunteers are given opportunities to exhibit their skills.
